Arsenal star dismisses summer transfer speculation

Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi has hit out at the transfer rumours that surrounded him this summer.

The German was linked with a move to Inter Milan in August, just a year after joining Arsenal in a £35 million move from Valencia. However, the San Siro giants director Piero Ausilio said the move fell through because Mustafi’s wage demands, and the Germany international has been one of the Gunners’ best defenders when fit this season.

After netting the opening goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win over arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, the Germany World Cup winner lashed out at reporters asking him about his potential move.

“You like to get the s—, the biggest s—,” Mustafi said according to the Telegraph. “What happens in the changing room is the real thing. I have been talking to clubs or if I haven’t, it’s only rumours. I’m here, I’m standing in front of you in an Arsenal shirt.”

The former Valencia star hit back at the critics who had written off Arsenal ahead of the game following four away losses in the Premier League this season.

“That’s you guys thinking it,” he said. “As always, Arsenal is dead, Arsenal is not coming back.

“We always are alive, we always believe in ourselves but we all know that if you win the big games but lose the small games you’re not going to finish top of the league, or even in the top four. If you win today and lose next weekend you are back where you were.”
